Jun. 11th, 2018 10:52 amWell, my brain is kind of a mess today. I went to bed last night quietly freaking out for fear that a mass shooter was going to shoot up DragonCon, no, Origins, no, somewhere else. Then I finally managed to fall asleep and then I woke up after a lot of vivid, exhausting dreams, got about as far as the thought that man David Bowie was lucky he got while the getting was good and realized what that thought was and cut it off with an oh hell no you did not just. But now I'm still tired, and the braintwin is having an even worse Monday being Monday, and I'm at work and all I want to do is sleep.
Or play Baldur's Gate. I picked up Baldur's Gate again over the weekend because the internet crashed mightily and I didn't have the energy to take the notes I should have been taking. I didn't get very far into it but it was fun and distracting. And if I can get through the workday I definitely plan on playing more tonight so that'll be a nice distraction from everything. There's the Sense8 finale but I'm honestly not sure I'm capable of handling that much emotion right now. Even positive emotion.
Work is pretty simple, thank god. Just basic packing stuff. I have a sense of what writing things I need to do after that but I think I'm going to keep it to a minimum of edits and some preliminary work on new things, no major edits or anything else like that. If I pull the pieces of my brain back together I might work on the lupus/immunology research and figure out what the basics are of that and how I can best talk about it in fiction. (The good part is I don't have to be accurate per se, since it's not a human being discussed, that's just the analogy. The bad part is I need to be accurate to the tests because that's what the human doctors are going to run.)
Tomatoes are now coming in on both the roma and the beefsteak! I forget what beefsteak tomatoes are for specifically but I have a vague memory that they're the slicing tomatoes. The Cherokee purple stubbornly refuse to appear, which is balls, I wanted my purple tomato sauce.
I have big plans to spend the rest of the week cleaning. We'll see how far I get with that but I am happy to have my office pretty well cleaned up. Everything got unpacked from boxes, which still need to be taken out to recycling since we missed recycling two weeks ago and now it's all overflowing. I'll have to take it out tomorrow night so they can pick up the whole shebang ugh. After that it's mostly just wiping everything down. And stacking things up in places and. Going through the filing cabinet. I'm not looking forward to that. Also we need more DVD shelves. Poop.
But hey, typing this all up has given me somewhat more energy, so I might as well see what I can get done before I collapse again. (I'm reasonably sure a lot of my mental collapse also has to do with Bourdain, trying to hold everyone up, and so on. And now I just fell over. That would make sense, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.)
