Jun. 26th, 2015 12:49 pmOh good god it's been an up and down week. There's Work Shenanigans going on with the boy that are freaking me right the fuck out, and there's general weight/fitness shenanigans that are also freaking me somewhat less the fuck out. How can I be gaining two pounds onto my average weight when I'm doing more and more intensive exercise than before? How the fuck does that happen?
(That happens because you're building muscle faster than you're burning fat, and muscle packs way more densely, that's why your lowest size jeans are able to be shucked off without undoing them but the numbers on the scale are going up, because you're adding muscle weight faster than you're dropping fatty tissue weight, and if you lose one pound of fatty tissue bulk you're still gaining a pound of muscle, you're going to slim down without dropping numbers on the scale, you know that, self, pacify your mammaries. Typing it out like that helps somewhat. But because I'm already on high tension I'm still going to freak out.)
(But capoeira is still going good and I'm still going to sweat and work my dumb ass off tomorrow.)
(Plus, it's the only martial arts discipline that I can think of that comes with a cool soundtrack.)
So, um. Yeah. Those are the downs. The ups, though, there are a few ups? Okay, there aren't many personal ups new to this week but we're still on track to pay off the car, which is a sizable expense we won't have to pay any more, and I managed to get all three chimney swifts evicted this week (THREE. IN A WEEK. We usually get that many in a YEAR. I wonder if it's the same swift. I'm going to start taking mug shots.), and I had a good capoeira lesson on Wednesday. And I get to keep my health care subsidy! Which means not adding another significant expense if things go south, which is so so nice. That one did have me quite a bit freaked out. And marriage equality! Marriage equalityyyyyyyyy. MARRIAGE LICENSES FOR EVERYONE. And! And in addition to that, federal employees' health insurers must now cover the cost of transitioning owing to it's an actual necessary medical procedure or set of medical procedures. And now federal health insurers must treat it as such! Starting Jan 1 2016, and hopefully private companies follow suit. Plus. PLUS. Upholding the broader interpretation of discrimination claims of Fair Housing. So in general it's a surprisingly good day to be an American, and despite or because of or a variety of things thereof, I'm very proud of my country for making things a little more fair across the board.
It's a sobering come back to reality that this is happening on the same day as Rev Clementa Pinckney's funeral, though. We've come a ways, and we still have so, so far to go. But for today, why not, we take this victory and yesterday's victory and let it boost us a little? Let it give us hope?
And if nothing else, here, have a gay pride Samuel L Jackson, because it's funny.
