I am not awake enough for anything. And I did get enough sleep last night! I know this because I went to bed on time (after checking the entire house for an intruder and finding out that it was just the storm banging things around on the porch, oi) and woke of my own accord around the time my alarm usually wakes me up. Which is good because the power surge in the night knocked out the power and kicked off the clock. Oops.
Ugh. Did finally find my Irish book today. On the shelf, where I'd left it. Oops. So that's starting up again, I have to finish the long paragraph of whatever it is Semyon says about the prospect of turning humans into Others, and then I'll be back on track with that. Work is finally calming the fuck down so I might be able to get more than a few paragraphs written per day. And, okay, most things are coming back on track after the week of hell. Slowly but surely.
Penny Dreadful is on in the background. It's really fascinating. It's using a lot of the same structure conventions and narrative quirks of the original works. And I mean, most of them. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Dracula just had an entire episode structured a bit after the fashion of an epistolary novel. And it works is the amazing thing. I think a friend of mine is right, it has a lot to do with the fact that one person has pretty good control over the direction it's going in, which makes it have the kind of consistency you need for matching all those disparate stories.
Assuming the rest of this week progresses as smoothly as the first couple in which I was catching up on rest, I guess today till Friday will be spent catching up on all the fiddly things that have been slipping through while I've been working myself into exhaustion. At least, we don't seem to have nearly as much incoming as we used to, and outgoing's been holding consistent. I can live with that. Especially since less stuff to do means I'm not getting talked at endlessly.
