Went and saw Smaug yesterday, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say that Peter Jackson is setting up what happens with Thorin towards the end relatively well, and takes away one fear I had when it turned out that Thorin had gone from being a cold, dickish if sort of responsible leader to being something like a more prideful Aragorn. And the Tauriel love triangle was better done than I expected, right up until her last scene. Thus has been my vague summation of the movie. I still have this urge to hug Thorin tightly, pet his silly dwarven head, soothe him a bit right before I shake him till his teeth rattle and read him the riot act on You Are Being A Proud Stubborn Idiot of a Dwarf, and Stop That.
Le sigh. We all who read the books knew it would end this way, but I still want to shake him. Make him separate his actions from the hard choices a leader in his position has to make from the cold choices the various form of dragon sickness are inducing him to make. Fucking tragic heroes.
Oh, I will also say that the movie ended about one combat scene before I thought it would. C'est la vie.
Dammit, now I want to go see that movie again.
Sleepy. Have absolutely no idea why I'm so very sleepy this weekend, I fell asleep around ten last night and woke up around 6.30 this morning. Okay, so, never mind, in retrospect and allowing for being woken up once in the middle of the night that's only slightly over eight hours, which is normal-ish. It's just not normal for me, so I feel like I've been sleeping forever. This is... sort of irritating? Marginally irritating. I feel like I should be doing more. Maybe not.
Right. Today, work, writing, I don't have any handcrafty projects to take in to work so maybe it will be knitting? I should do leatherworking except that I haven't tried out the new snaps yet. Tonight, maybe. So, knitting. Writing and knitting and maybe I'll work some on Latin or German or something. Seems like enough to be doing on a Monday when we're shorthanded. (Elf Lord and Aunt are off in DC. Alas.)
