We're on day... four? Three. Day three of my hand having been bitten by one of the ferals outside. The two very tiny punctures show no signs of infection and one is all but healed. The redness and swelling have faded. I have minimal swelling and lingering but minimal pain, and mostly it feels like an impact injury. About the only danger at this point would be rabies, which as I understand it feral cats don't commonly have. Also apparently if you observe the animal over ten days and it doesn't have rabies, you don't need the injections, so either a) the rabies vaccine works even one to two weeks later and b) we've observed them for, what, two to three weeks right now? It didn't bite me until I was a dumbass and cornered it to try to pick it up. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have rabies.

(The actual rationale behind trying to pick up a feral is we have to catch all of them at one point or another and haul them off to the Humane Alliance for snipping so we don't end up with MORE ferals. I swear I don't go around trying to pick up strange half-wild cats.)

The boy is still insisting I go to the doctor. I have no idea why. It'd be more irritating if it wasn't time for my annual physical anyway, so I might as well make that appointment.

Inserting snaps did not go quite as well as expected or hoped. Not quite as badly either, but still not quite as well as hoped. This might be due to the snaps being bigger than they should be for the thickness of the leather, which, I'll get smaller snaps and try those on scrap leather. And failing all else, there's always buckles and possibly sewing in zippers into the big pouches. Still, it's disappointing/annoying. We'll see what happens when I get my snaps over the next few days, I guess. And in the meantime maybe I can close the littler pouches, the rune/dice pouches with buttons or something. I'm sure I have pretty buttons somewhere in my button jar.

Back to work today, anyway. Whee. Back to normal and trying to remember a little more assiduously to do my Russian and German reading for the next few weeks because I got gift certificates to Amazon for Christmas, and as a result I'm getting the Wheelock's Latin. So this ought to be fun. Let's see how many languages I can cram into my head at the same time! Wheeee!

So, I was dragged to the doctor's office. The nurses/assistants clucked about cat scratch fever. The doctor asked me about half the questions, I filled in the other half of the answers which he confirmed later with a "And it sounds like you've been keeping an eye out for the other symptoms, and they haven't appeared." He poked and prodded my hand and pronounced me Not Infected and Probably Not Rabid But Keep An Eye On The Cat Just In Case. And don't go trying to pick up any more ferals.

Then I went and did the I told you so dance at the boyfriend and made him buy me lunch.

Got down to the middle of page 24 today before I ended up stopping, though it was slow enough that I probably could have kept going. Still, tomorrow I really need to do something about the atrocious state of the paperwork on my desk. Today I'm recovering from, in a weird way, having spent too much of yesterday asleep. And the resultant sleepy feeling of not quite headache but almost. I actually intended to get some writing done today at work, but that really didn't happen. At this point I'm just hoping to get through the rest of today so I can go home, clean out my fridge and pick up in my kitchen a bit and get started on the secular new year right. Then finish this fucking writing.

I don't feel terribly bad about it. No one's been good about deadlines on this project and at most it'll only be a couple weeks late as opposed to, oh. Months? I'm pretty sure months. I'm pretty sure I was meant to be working on this in summer. Something like that. At any rate, kitchen, cleaning, cooking, then sitting down and writing, then my reward for finishing my writing will be cleaning up the bedroom upstairs, putting away all my new makeup and shit, and getting a section of wall ready for my ballet barre which is incoming. Which will make it easier for me to do certain exercises, thank god.

Yes, I have once again hit that stage where I must clean all the things in preparation for having my handful of new things otherwise I do not deserve nice shiny new things. Do not ask me where the fuck this comes from because I do not know.

But, yes. And I checked in with my girls, so all is well there, or at least organized in my head. I have half an idea of what I'm doing over the course of the next year. Whether or not it actually gets achieved is something else entirely. This year, well. This year brought a lot of new friends, strange surprises, on the whole good unexpected things but also some bad ones. Be interesting to see what the coming year brings.
