Okay, I didn't finish that yesterday, but I got it today! And another thing translating fairy tales seems good for: learning semantics! Bloody damn semantics. I mean, they're useful, but they're ANNOYING to learn.

Well, Yuletide nominations continue to please me as far as getting things in that I wanted to nominate and didn't have space for. I'd say I wished there were five slots for everyone, but I think we'd/I'd probably agonize just as much over five slots as over three, so oh well. I keep feeling guilty over wanting to nominate a bunch of obscure ones, but it's not like I'm requesting obscure things. Just nominating. I can always pick a "safety" or a less obscure fandom to request along with all the other obscure ones. Offering, I feel a little worried because a lot of those are either books I probably won't have time to read or other things I'm not familiar with, but we'll see how the pinch hits shake out. Yes, I'm possibly the only person in the challenge who eyes the nominations list with an eye towards 'how many of those could I fill in for in a pinch.' Shut up.

Sent in what I hope are the right documents to the contractor to send to the permits office. Le sigh. Can't the permits office just look up the damn thing in the register of deeds? Fucking efficiency of government I swear.

Went by the house last night, discovered a leak from one of the upstairs pipes, probably the sink drain. Le sigh. The plumbing in this house is giving me fits, I swear, and I'm not entirely sure why it's showing up now when we've been running... um. Both kitchen sinks (yes, there are two of them), the upstairs toilet, the upstairs tub, the boy's washed his hands in the upstairs sink before, the downstairs sink, the downstairs toilet... Oh well. One leak when previously the whole house didn't have water, not so bad. And the upstairs bathroom is the fucking ugly one that needs to be retooled anyway. We stopped the leak, and we have another bathroom. And we peeled off almost all of the wallpaper and discovered fucking paint beneath it. Paint. A half-assed single-layer paint job, too, deep cherry-burgundy type red. WHY. The boy looked at it and sighed and went FUCKIT SANDING AND STRIPPING AND REFINISHING ALL THE THINGS. Or rather, all the living room. I remind you that this is a something like 15x30 room with 11? foot ceilings. We haven't measured the ceilings and I don't have the floor plan with me to hand, but that's about how big it is. Plus bookshelves, plus the section that extends into the dining room, plus the hutch, oh my god this is going to be a job of work. One room at a time, though. The good thing about this house is that there's enough space that we can live in the master bedroom, den, and kitchen and hallway and continue to strip and redo all the surfaces in the living room. And then, of course, we'll rotate around in the upstairs fixing one room at a time, but that was long planned and expected. And should be fun.

What else did we do last night... we had insufficient anti-bug fog, apparently, to kill most of the bugs. We killed some of the bugs! There are a LOT of dead flies in the kitchen. But downstairs in the living room there are still many live things with more legs than permitted in my house, so we'll get some more foggers and do it again later. At least we're not living there yet. I'm mildly annoyed that we're not supposed to start stripping and refinishing, even if it won't interfere with what the contractors are doing, till after they're done. But at least we can start cleaning and moving things in and so on. And weeding and pulling plants.

... You know what I need to do today? Apart from the usual. I need to get the actual dimensions of the four rooms ... no, five. Counting the office. That we're going to sand and peel and stain or paint. So I can get an idea of how much I'm going to spend on paint and stain. I've got the diagrams at home but maybe when the Elf Lord gets in I can get the dimensions from him. Yesh. This is a Plan. I like this plan. Seriously, we're going to be working on this for at least the next year. And then maybe after that if interest rates are even lower, we can refinance based on increased appraisal, because after we do that and the contractors do their structural things, this house is going to be fucking awesome.

How the hell did I make it to chapter 11 already. And while I'm at it, how the hell did I get to where I'm at least reasonably competent at reading and translating and understanding German, and how can I still feel this floundery? Stupid caterpillars.

Oh god, we're almost done with the Haven analysis and then the Woman in Black analysis and then we'll be caught up with our own expectations! If not with the material. Just in time for new material! Yay. No, I kid, or kind of, the work is making us a bit boggly-eyed but we enjoy chewing over things like this. That's why we have the blog! And Anna's going to spend today ploughing through Haven and then I will spend tonight ploughing through Grimm and then we will be caught up to the new data. And hopefully this week's Grimm won't take terribly long. She said, knowing that would jinx everything.

We interrupt this blather with an entertaining announcement: Samuel L Jackson did an ad stumping for Obama along the lines of 'Go the Fuck to Sleep', only now it's "Wake the Fuck Up." I love that man.

Um. Okay! We have permits, I'm turning over keys to the contractor tomorrow morning or Brian is tomorrow afternoon, and I need to get copies of the permits to the bank so they know the work can begin and I'll talk to the bank about the first draw. Which I should actually call the bank today and do that, see if they can get an inspector over. Argh logistics. So annoying. But it's forward progress even if it is annoying, and since the center is in an earlier time zone, that makes that easier. Okay, then. Holy crap, stuff is actually HAPPENING. It's like a much more fun version of hurry up and wait. Cleaning and renovations and more cleaning and moving stuff to the new house from the apartment and more cleaning and you guys I am so excite I cannot even tell you. Again.

Right. We work before we play, which means it's time for me to get back to day job work, not throttle our suppliers (don't ask), and get that done and dusted so I can call the bank and set up an inspection for the draw procedure. Hopefully this will go more easily than the purchase process. And I still need a tag for the house. Blargh.
