Someone explain why, despite never actually having seen The Big Lebowski, it keeps popping up in my head. It better not be because of Jeff Bridges.

(Actually it might be John Goodman's fault, he was in Coyote Ugly, which I had on over the weekend because I was bored.)

Oof. Okay. Um. Stuff and things. It's Friday! This makes me very happy. I still don't want to go in to work, but hey. I'm tired, it's Friday, that's to be expected. Slowly making progress on the whole knocking down things on my list of shit to do. I really, really want to just stay home and dick around on my guitar all day. Or my laptop, or both. Although actually if I really wanted to I could probably bring my guitar to work and tool around on it there. ... No, Jag, that would be distracting and wrong.

No link roundups today, I think. Just knocking down crap off my list of things to do, and then summarizing what happens in politics today, tomorrow. And maybe soon the madness will die down. The Republican party and/or the people responsible for most of the anti-union legislation seem to be backing off. I'd forgotten how exhausting keeping up with political enthusiasm can be. Now I can take a weekend and bloody relax. And not watch The Big Lebowski because that would just be weird. Maybe I'll marathon Sons of Anarchy instead.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

This is another of those "... that explains a lot" type articles. It's also in Spanish, so most of my f-list is likely to be very confused, but I figure there are enough Spanish Speakers/Studiers that it's worth linking to the original, including the ones I don't know about. I can translate if people want, but the gist of it is that bilingual babies around 8 months can distinguish between the shapes of people speaking French and English. And other early-bilingualism-makes-you-smart type things. Assuming you do it right, of course, as in actually speak the language and don't babytalk it.

Sometimes I wonder why I do this whole studying languages thing. I mean, there are language exercises I could do that don't involve picking up whole new languages, to relax. Hell, sometimes I wonder how many people also find sentence construction and comparing grammar rules relaxing. I suspect there are far more of us lurking on the internet than I feel like, which wouldn't be hard because I feel like it's a club of three or four right now. And on the other hand, then I make new friends by getting into random discussions about the quirks of one language or another, or several, or a whole language family and I remember that, yes. Studying languages on your own time for your own amusement is odd, but there are far odder things out there. Like platypuses. And Uggs.

I tripped over some more of my yarn the other day, literally. It was hiding under the monster red scale and when I moved things around, it came out. Four or five skeins worth. I relegated it to the freezer to kill anything living there, I guess Monday I'll give it over to the aunt to make it go funny colors. And then I'll take pictures of it and whoever wants it can have it. I don't even know what it'll end up being. It amuses me!

Today's been one of those strange days where nothing happened nothing happened nothing happened OH SHIT STUFF'S HAPPENING. Right now I'm treading water till I go home, at which time the strange poll drabble will be explained and I will get to shower the sweat off and sit back and relax and write stories that I have no idea where they're coming from or where they're going. Fun! I love it when stories do that, really. What the hell, pixies? For real?
