( 30 days of writing )4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!AHAHAHAHAHA oh god.
My first stories, literally, were either fictionalizations of my life (I was having grand adventures no really) or rehashes/Mary Sue re-writes of Labyrinth. I was between 6 and 8 at the time. Shortly after that I graduated to writing X-Men fanfic. My best friend at the time and I had this thing called The Manuscript (capitals mandatory) which we didn't have a title for other than that, and which I carried around in a 3-ring binder and she carried around in a faux-leather folder. It was written on whatever we could find, it was hilarious, and it involved Wolverine/Jubilee, Rogue/Gambit as the primary couples. Later on it involved anyone/everyone. I don't remember much about it except that we had so, so much fun with relationship drama and kidnappings and things, and it involved the immortal line "YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE YOU SCREWED ME!!" Hers. She was awesome.
My first short story to be published (theoretically, I don't know if it actually ever was) was a horrible piece of angst-ridden fiction written at that period of just-post-relationship angst and heartbreak. It involved a fallen angel and blood like rubies and such. This was... sometime when I was in college. It was pretty flowery and kind of hideous.
My first full-length novel to be plotted out was also kind of hideous, but only in a very awkwardly structured way. It was a fantasy novel about a mercenary logistics specialist from a company of mercenaries, hired by a lord to bolster the border for his king against what the king imagined would be invasion by raiders. Of course, it was all a plot for the lord himself to build up resources for an army and take over. When the mercenary finds out, she (of course) flees up north, ending up tripping over (literally) a book of forgotten magic. But since it's a book and she's illiterate, she has to learn to read. Then she has to go back to the country and take it back from the evil usurping lord. As you can see, it was all very awkward and cluttered. I keep meaning to go back to it, but it keeps not happening. It did, however, get me a damn good grade in high school for my Senior Project.
Maybe I'll work on that in yWriter, which I've downloaded meaning to try out, but never have. It might help me unscramble my thoughts on the damn project.
