kittydesade: (little slips of paper)
A really sweet young man came into the store today. (I told [livejournal.com profile] analise this earlier.) He asked about our store in a very general way that left us all at the front counter (Oona, the pregnant shipper lady I'm taking over for temporarily) and the Witch Queen (who is not actually a bad person at all and very nice and sweet and just sort of reminds me of a goodwitch Queen, also I needed a code name for her) sort of blinking. He just wanted to know about our store. The kinds of things we sold, the history of the store, who we were. We talked for a bit, and I opened the paper catalog (we don't print it anymore but we have one stashed at a couple of desks in case we need one) and handed him the page that had the history of the store and its people. He read it, smiled, and then told us he was just wandering around downtown, going into stores and asking people to tell him about their stores because he's trying to buy locally as much as possible. He was sweet, well-spoken... just another little reminder of why I love this place.

It also reminded me that I should do some more exploring of downtown. I have a local used bookstore and a local new bookstore, I found a local stationary shop and a toy store with a well meaning but sounding slightly stoned young man, I know where the drug store is, the pub, and the chocolate store, and the library, and the post office, but there are probably a few other places I could find. Oh! And I found a good local bistro too, when the boy was still up here. They made a tasty burger.

Last night I went out with the Elf Lord and played drum water jug for the Morris Dancers. They seemed to like me and this may be an ongoing thing. Apparently they just needed someone to, essentially, be a human metronome (sp?) although I was invited also to just noodle around a bit. I decided to keep just to striking a beat for them though, after a couple of mishaps and collisions. I also found Tiger's Milk Bars at the food co-op which is within walking distance of the store! Oh, that's another thing, then, that's close to the store at which I can purchase groceries locally and be virtuous. Ahem. But, yes, the real victory was Tiger's Milk Bars. I think only Bria remembers how overjoyed I was to find them a while back. I have a childhood... thing.

I think that's really most everything that's happened. Still working on getting caught up on my TRs, which will hopefully finish tonight. It was supposed to finish YESTERDAY but we all know how fast I post. Yes.

I'm having leftover potato soup for dinner, yum, and pondering how early I can go over to the local apartment complex tomorrow to enquire about available apartments for next month. And then after that I'll take the bus in, I think, since the Elf Lord has an appointment and Aunt E tends to come in early.

Aunt E is doing... I don't know how she's doing. Other than not sleeping at all, which is making her very inclined to be depressed and worry. Which is sort of doing a number on my nerves, but I don't really feel as though I've much of a right to complain to her, you know? I did talk to the Witch Queen about Aunt E's fears related to the store, and she seemed much more calm and such about things, so that eases my mind on that score. Aunt B and Mom are very worried about Aunt E, which makes me sort of wonder if they know something I don't. Or if they're just worried, which is reasonable. I'm worried too. She's not so bad in the morning, even cheerful some evenings, most notably after she's gotten a fair amount of sleep. But she doesn't seem to be able to do so without the aid of drugs, which is worrisome. Especially since she doesn't like the side effects of most of the drugs (I'm not sure I would either) and so she doesn't take them, really. I just don't know. She's always been a very independant sort, and not being able to do a lot of the things that she used to... well. Yeah.

But, anyway. Tomorrow will be a day of running errands before I get in to work. I'm sort of trading with Oona and the Crocheting Bandit (name may change in the future), since they're coming in late and maybe calling off, respectively, on Friday. First the apartments, then the post office to mail things, then work. Then maybe the bookstore at lunch to see about getting tickets to the Rita Mae Brown event later in the month. And definitely calling the damn credit bureau/credit card company (not sure which, the boy gave me an 800 number) to get all those damn offers stopped. And planned parenthood to make an appointment. Remembering all of this is going to be the bitch and a half. I may start tying string around my wrists so I don't forget.
