Working with Dragon
Oct. 13th, 2007 02:00 pmYou know, it helps to turn the microphone on.
So, as you might have guessed, it's that time of year again. Yup, that time of year when I inflict upon myself all kinds of ridiculous deadlines, manic obsessions, and otherwise very unwise things. Also that time of year when I attempt to give myself carpal tunnel syndrome in two months, hence the writing this by dictation. Just a note: dictation gives you funny typos.
I need a new headset.
I've also just realized, or maybe realized isn't the correct word, that I don't do means. I mean means. And, really, the only reason I'm not erasing all of that is so that you can see that Dragon doesn't understand what a meme is. Like I said, funny typos. I'm also noticing that it puts two spaces after every sentence. See, two spaces. And now I remember that it doesn't notice inflection, so that if I end a sentence with an upward tone it doesn't realize that I'm asking a question. Silly Dragon.
Probably the reason my wrist actually hurts, apart from the whole "oh dear god I must write a bajillion words right now" thing, is that I've also been doing e-mails at work more often than usual. (Sidenote: Dragon doesn't seem to know what a bajillion is.) Or at least, more often than I'd gotten used to. For a while there I was doing them every day, and then I was doing them two or three days a week, and now I think I'm back to doing them everyday. It's not my fault I type faster than God. Oh! Hey. Dragon just learned what a bajillion is. It's such an adorable little learning program. And it's teaching me how to enunciate.
So, yeah. Ooh, hey, I should have an icon for Dragon. Since I'm probably going to be (and I just now noticed that since I corrected it the first two times, it's been capitalizing Dragon) using Dragon a lot, and talking about the weirdness that can result from using an dictate program. The only question is, what kind of nifty icon should I come up with? This will require some thought.
Woo! Well, two things. Three things. First, figure out how the hell to edit with Dragon in LiveJournal itself without actually hitting post on everything. I have no idea why it posted that and I have no idea why it screws up more in LiveJournal (hey, it learned a new word again) than it does in Word. Second, I think I'm figuring out how to interact the dictate program with the menus. Third, I really love learning programs.
Anyway, I'm going to post this puppy before Dragon gets any more ideas about what I'm saying. Some of these typos, man, you would not believe.
