Mar. 11th, 2007 10:56 amDay after game = sleepy Jag. Which is not so good because I need to get a buttload of sewing done. Last Sunday's sewing took me half the week. Here's hoping I have better luck today.
But. Talked some things over. And sewing, writing, sitting in one place and making things happen helps. So things are better. Even if I'm still bloody exhausted from beingup all night and the clocks moving forward didn't help. Deadlands was fun, though. We saw 300 before the game and then stuck ourselves at the mouth of a cave for two hours fighting a combat that was just supposed to get us into the cave. Told the Pirate that it was because we saw 300 first. "We must hold the pass!"
Ahem.
300 was everything I thought it could be. Michael Fassbender was the hottest thing on two snarky legs, and I suspect there will be some kind of irony in the fact that though Leonides comments on the Athenians being 'philosophers and boy-lovers' I predict much slash between Fassbender's character and the boy of the group. Ohyes. The whole thing was very mythic in the sense of having gods and monsters. There was a little more sex than I was led to believe from one metaquotes review and the proportion of mostly-naked ripped-and-shouting men to the mostly-naked writhing women in the preview. But hey. It was pretty sex. The whole damn movie was very, very pretty. And, fortunately, it kicked as much ass as it displayed.
The one Classics geek on my flist who's seen it so far seems to think it was at least historically accurate enough to please her. Me, it's been way too long since I've read those histories, so the most I have on it is two and a half hours of History Channel. And it was never intended to be that accurate anyway? A boy's stylistic impression of the battle filtered through the mind of a fairly dark and twisted man. God, it was gorgeous. And funny. And yes, I did come out of the movie all "THIS! IS! SPARTAAHARARAARRRHHHAAH!"
... Now that I think about it, I think watching a lot of mostly naked ass-kicking men cheered me up immensely. So does Michael Fassbender, who is my new obscure crush. Where's Hex when you need it...
