In addition to the verb forms for basic past, present, and future, most Irish verbs have a verbal noun form. The meaning is verbal, but they can be used in parts of sentences where nouns usually appear, and they act like nouns grammatically: they have gender, genitive-case forms, and plural forms, and when they are followed by another noun it must be in the genitive case. Sometimes they are used as gerunds or participles, other times they translate as the infinitive. SOmetimes the verbal noun is used where English has a different form for noun and verb:"to marry vs marriage," "to injure vs injury," etc

The verbal noun forms given are the Official Standard, but each dialect also has its own forms, so pay attention if it comes up. Most verbal nouns add a suffix to the imperative stem. Some of the most common endings:

glan, glanadh
bris, briseadh
pos, posadh
déan, déanamh
léigh, léamh
áirigh, áireamh
tóg, tógáil
fág, fágáil
coinnigh, coinneáil
bain, baint
imir, imirt
oscail, oscailt
salaigh, salú
tosaigh, tosú
bailigh, bailiú

So, this weekend would have been a lot better if I hadn't spent the bulk of Sunday being exhausted and sick and not actually getting anything done that I wanted to. Extra bonus points for not being able to sleep because too sweaty and too itchy and finally I just took a pile of drugs (read: a glug of NyQuil) and forced myself to pass out. Today, marginally better in that most of my symptoms are gone except, of course, the debilitating exhaustion and body aches. Although maybe that was slinging boxes all day.

Portland plans are starting to come together, most recently plans for meals and things, leading us to wonder what am our lives what am our choices. It's been so long since I've been to a strange city and been an actual tourist, I don't actually remember what it's like. When was the last time I played tourist in a strange city? .... London? Was that really the last time? No, Stratford. Something like that. I can't count Maui because I didn't much leave the hotel there, so, okay, yes, Stratford. And that's over ten years ago, literally. Christ in a bucket. No wonder I'm wondering about my life and choices.

So. Pretty much what I have to do this coming weekend is pack and clean, I have to keep my routines between now and then. Next week is a Grimm pause, thankfully, so I can get everything set up to just wake up at fuck o'clock in the morning on Wednesday and just go. And the mail order sale. Christ. I don't even know with that, it hasn't started horribly but it's also been busier than it has and. Bleh.

It's finally happening. It started out as a ... not quite a pipe dream? But definitely closer to wishful thinking. And now it's happening, everything's booked and we've got all our prep and my business cards are coming and... this is happening. It's a bit amazing.
