An dtabharfá - would you give...
This is a polite form of request. The verb tugann (gives) is quite irregular, and this particular form is pronounced un dúrfá/un dórhá (so, two syllables instead of three). The recipient is always indicated by the preposition do (to):
e.g. An dtabharfá an litir seo do Mháire?
If the recipient is a pronoun (and oh the mental pictures that suddenly brings up) the appropriate personal form of do must be used. You have seen some of these already. The full set is:
dom - to me
duit - to you
dó - to him
di - to her
dúinn - to us
daoibh - to you (also díbh)
dóibh - to them
Some examples:
An dtabharfá an litir seo di? Would you give her this letter?
An dtabharfá pionta bainne dom? Would you give me a pint of milk?
Tabhair dom... Give me...
This is a less formal alternative to an dtabharfá. It is not by any means impolite, however, particularly if one adds le do thoil.
Tabhair an litir seo do Mháire. Give this letter to Mary.
Tabhair pionta bainne dom, le do thoil. Give me a pint of milk, please.
The personal forms of do often come immediately after tabhair, especially if whatever is being sought takes several words to express.
Tabhair dom pionta bainne, le do thoil. Give me a pint of milk, please.
Tabhair dom pionta bainne agus mála siúcra, le do thoil. Give me a pint of milk and a bag of sugar, please.
Tabhair di an litir seo. Give her this letter.
I have no idea what is going on in my head, apart from zombie movies shortly before bed last night (thanks, dear), followed by bare minimum of sleep and vivid and strange dreams, followed by inability to wake up this morning due to the aforementioned, followed by the inevitable lack of exercise and new nap, followed by my brain stuttering between the modern royal court of Grimm and the Middle Earth royal court (such as it is in both cases) of The Hobbit, followed by my Irish book actually stuttering and repeating English translation fragments, followed by...
Not really happy about this, anyway. And now I have a dentist appointment. Not really happy about that, either.
Today's statement of intent involves finishing the Grey Gull post and line edits at work, and then drafting the Haven Herald at home. Thankfully the Grey Gull won't be that intensive and it's half done anyway, and then I have the next few days to draft and finish the Haven Herald. We'll see if I can recover brain cells to do that, although I'm hoping that just getting a decent night's sleep tonight with no goddamn zombie movies will reset everything. Till then, I have no idea what I'm doing other than taking it one step at a time and working on brain-resetting things after the dentist. Because dentist. Those things stress me out even when it's a simple cleaning, which this is.
At least game, which wasn't so much game as everyone came over and then we all sat around and bullshitted for hours and hours, was a success. Along with hamentaschen. I need to remember that recipe for shortbread, it is all the tasty. Om nom nom.
