Relative clauses (ooh, hey, I was wondering about that).
Ist das der mann, den Sie meinen? Is that the man (whom) you mean?
Das ist das Auto, das du kaufen möchtest. That is the car (that) you'd like to buy.
Wer ist die Frau, die gerade hereinkommt? Who is the woman (who is) just coming in?

A relative clause provides additional information about a previously mentioned noun or pronoun. THe clause is introduced by a relative pronoun (e.g. den, das, die) that refers back to the antecedent. Since a relative clause is a dependent clause, the finite verb stands in the last position. In German, the relative pronoun must always be stated and is written as set off from the main clause by a comma. The relative pronouns are:

Nom: der, das, die, die
Acc: den, das, die, die
Dat: dem, dem, der, denen
Gen: dessen, dessen, deren, deren

The gender of a relative pronoun depends on the gender of the antecedent. The case of a relative pronoun depends on its grammatical function in the relative clause.

Nom: Ist das der Mann, der hier war? Is that the man who was here?
Acc: Ist das der Mann, den Sie meinen? Is that the man (whom) you mean?
Dat: Ist das der Mann, dem Sie es gesagt haben? Is that the man )to whom) you spoke?
Gen: Ist das der Mann, dessen Auto Sie gekauft haben? Is that the man (whose) car you bought?

A relative clause can also be introduced by a preposition followed by a relative pronoun. The case of the relative pronoun then depends on what case the preposition takes. In the example below, die is accusative because of für, der is dative because of bei. In German, whenever a relative pronoun is the object of a preposition, the preposition precedes the pronoun.

Wie heisst die Frau, für die Sie arbeiten? What is the name of the woman for whom you work?
Wo ist die Firma, bei der Sie arbeiten? Where is the firm (that) you work for?

More things I'm not saying in public because that would be mean and petty and serve no useful purpose, but I disagree so hard with some of the things the Once showrunners are doing in their approach to the overall story. I'm not even watching it anymore, I'm just catching bits and pieces of interviews because a couple friends repost them. There's maybe a couple contexts where statements like that would make sense, and I wish I had enough faith to think that was the case, but, um. No. Just, no. Cheetos and Mountain Dew and little else.
