Verbal adjectives are apparently something that happens to formal people. So.

Verbal adjectives (adjectives made from verbs [no shit, really?]) are called participles in some grammar and reference books. Like other adjectives, verbal adjectives agree with the noun they modify in gender, number, and case. There are four types of verbal adjectives.

1. Present active verbal adjectives tell who or which is doing something. This involves -щ- plus an adjective ending.
входить --> они входят --> входящ + adj. ending such as -ий -ая -ее
Образец: Гостя, входящего в комнату, зовут Пётр Иванович.
The guest who is entering the room is named Pyotr Ivanovich.

2. Past active verbal adjectives tell who or which did something or was doing something. This involves -вш- plus an adjective ending.
опоздать -- одоздал -- опоздавш --ий --ая --ее
Образец: Опоздавших гостей считают дурно воспитанными.
Guests who have arrived late are considered poorly brought up.

3. Present passive verbal adjectives tell which is being done. They are quite rare. Shown by -м-plus an adjectival ending.
Take the мы form of the verb and add an adjectival ending. The stress follows that of the infinitive. любим --> любимый
Образец: Хозяева предложили свои любимые блюда.
The hosts offered their favorite dishes (the dishes that are loved).

4. Past passive verbal adjectives tell which was done. They are formed only from perfective/simple verbs. The person or thing who performed the action may be indicated by a noun phrase in the instrumental case.
-н- + short form adjective ending
-нн- + long form adjective ending
-т- + short or long form adjective ending

(-ать) написать -- написа -- написан
(all others) куплю -- купл -- куплен, куплена, куплено...
(all others) принесу -- принес -- принесён, принесена, принесено...

The long form is made by doubling the -н- and adding regular adjectival endings: написанный, поставленный, принесённый.

Some verbs with one-syllable roots have past participles in -т- form: открыт, открыта, открыто, открыты, открытый

Образец: Только дурно воспитанные гости опаздывают.

Verbal adjectives may be placed either before or after the noun:
Гостя, входящего в комнату, зовут Пётр Иванович.
Входящего в комнату гостя зовут Пётр Иванович.

So. Um. I'm actually almost done with my Russian textbook now. Which means I'm almost done with my Russian. Eek.

Random collection of stuff. Lytro cameras are out and they look awesome and I want one. Maybe if I save my pennies I can get one, but right now it's still firmly in the realm of OOH SHINY DO WANT. Finally did the thing where I cancel cable only to find out that the internet might go with it unless we can get a plug that works, so I don't know how much internet access I'll have when I get home, yay. On the semi-plus side, that might mean all the writing ever if I remember to download files before I leave work. On the minus side, argh in the category of things I wanted to know yesterday. Oh well. Less money I'm shelling out every month for a service I never use and no more political goddamn commercials. Music theory lessons are awesome. Schroedinger's Gaddafi is back.

Oof. It got abruptly cold here, but looking at the forecast at least it's supposed to stay about this chilly for a while, so at least it's a consistent temperature dropping to another consistent temperature? Just, one about fifteen to twenty degrees cooler. Winter isn't quite here but fall settled in with a thump and is making its presence very distinct from summer. The leaves are all going very pretty, and the last of the rain is supposed to hit today, meaning it'll be good weather for the fiber fair. Good cool weather to remind people that they want to do things with wool. ;)

I'm not sure I'm going to feel as rested by the end of the day as I do right now, no, in fact, I'm sure I won't. I'll probably be exhausted again but at the same time, I'm clearing off my to-do list and it's actually steadying out. I wasn't sure it would the first few days I was saying that. But it really does seem to be evening out. Which is nice. I was getting tired of everything being crazy, exhausting, etc. Just exhausting I can handle, even if I grumble.
