That first paragraph is why some expression that sound good in English just become too cumbersome in other (especially Slavic) languages. It's not just you.

Она надо только спросить -> you're switching tenses here. Надо is present, the rest of the narrative is past. That's why I corrected it. :)

The voice thing is correct, now!

YEP, definitely much better. The neutral gender sneaks in when you don't suspect it, but, yes on instincts. That's why reading helps, gets you to have a feeling for what sounds right and what doesn't. But watching the movie probably will help, too!
