The Nickname Debate
Oh, the silliness of us...

I know... I wouldn't have thought of it except for the OotP stuff. I wouldn't want to be called "Snivelus" either. Although I did have a good idea for a fanfic... completely off the topic of nicknames. What if that scene Harry saw... with the screaming man and cringing kid... what if that wasn't Snape's childhood, what if that was his adulthood.. and his kid? Just a thought...
And it would be nice to see fangirls using "proper" diminutive forms of names, for those names with accepted diminutives. (It just won't happen in some fandoms. Who's gonna realize, besides maybe me, that Captain Jack Sparrow could be John or Jonathan?) But the first author who calls Henry Jekyll "Harry" is going to be accused of being stupid, forgetful, or a closet HP fan. Though I could see a certain type of woman, admittedly of a type that would make him all flustered, calling Jekyll "Red." Or even "Doc." (And that's not saying that it couldn't be a man giving Henry nicknames. It could be. But slash in this fandom is easily restricted to canon chars.)
Isn't it though? I love the incessant gayness of a lot of the characters... that, amusingly enough, is still in character.
Doc.. maybe Doc. THe only person I can see giving any of them nicknames, though, is Skinner from the movie verse. Because he's so irreverant with all of them.
And, um, is the Edward you're calling Ned there Hyde? Cos... well, it's not that I can't see it. It's just that... I mean, it's Hyde. I can see him answering to nicknames (personally, I see bold Parisian whores calling him "Grande Edouard" or somesuch), but a character would have to have balls of solid rock to actually give Edward Hyde a nickname.
Or a complete and utter disregard for personal safety. Or the perfectly solid (however mistaken) conviction that he wouldn't hurt them. Maybe Mina could get away with it after a long association. Maybe. You're right, I can't see him answering to it. But it would be amusing to see his expression >:)

I admit to calling Mozenrath, (I fangirl him incessantly) Moze. But never in-story, and only cos "Mozenrath" is a bitch to type.
I think the only name I've given to characters lately has been 'the InvisiPervs' for Skinner and Griffin.. I don't know where that happened or why.cruelest_month and I used to do it... less, now that we're more discussing our own characters.
