I think the big problem with Bane and Talia is that Talia's dad turned out to be an assassin. If he'd been, say, the owner of a muffin kiosk, I think she and Bane would be living a quiet, happy life as Lead Baker and Terrifying Cashier, respectively. But, nope. Angry, vengeful dad begets angry, vengeful daughter, and a powerful, ruthless man who's fiercely loyal to both of them.
