In Chapters 1-10 we have been primarily using verbs in sentences that make statements and questions dealing with "real" situations. Verb forms of this type are said to be in the indicative mood. When we talk about "unreal" or hypothetical situations we may use verbs in the goddamn fucking subjunctive mood.

The subjunctive is also used to express wishes and polite requests. You have been using möchte to express wishes since Chapter three. Möchte is the subjunctive form of mögen, to like.

German has two ways to express the subjunctive mood. One way is to use the würde-construction (Ich würde das nicht tun.) The other way is to use the subjunctive form of the main verb (Ich täte das nicht.= The meaning of both ways is the same (I would not do that.) In conversational German the würde constructioni s used much more frequently than the subjunctive form of the main verbs, with the exception of a few verbs that are commonly used in the subjunctive (hätte, wäre, and the modals.)

Wenn ich nur Zeit hätte. If only I had time.

Present time subjunctive can refer to the future as well as to present time.

Present tense endings: kommen
käme, kämest, käme, kämen, kämet, kämen, kämen

The subjunctive endings are used for all verbs, strong and weak. Note that the endings are identical to the past-tense endings of weak verbs, minus the -t of -te. In colloquial German, the endings -est and -et often contract to -st and -t if the form is clearly subjunctive, as indicated by the umlaut in strong verbs.

This is the best sand sculpture ever.

So, yeah. I lost an hour, hour and a half total time to Polyvore, but I did manage to make five or six outfits that I think I might even actually wear, that satisfy both personal style and the not-being-jeans-and-a-t-shirt requirement. I will consider this a victory. And then when I get home I will inventory my accessories for inputting THAT into Polyvore and then I can start rebuilding my tops collection. Because right now all my tops are t-shirts. This needs to be fixed.

Tomorrow there will be early voting and then I get to tell all the Republicans who are not robots who try to call "Sorry, no, I voted. I'm not telling you how I voted. Fuckoff." And that will be a happy thing. I am so, so sick of this entire election season. And then hopefully after voting there will... well, either there will be work after early voting or there will be Kohls to return baggyass shirts and get ones that fit properly. I hope. Otherwise I will be packing them in a bag and returning them by mail, which, not so bad, but still annoying. I may see some other shirts I like at Kohl's too. We shall see.
