So. I saw Snowpiercer last night.
It would be wrong to say I enjoyed it. Enjoyment is definitely not the word I would use. It would be accurate to say I didn't feel it was a waste of money. There were definitely some tired old race tropes that I feel weren't subverted as hard as they could have been, though I think I found them more subverted than most people. In the end, I'm really not sure what I thought of it. Parts of it reminded me of a more brutal Cite des Enfants Perdu.
The resolution on the linux box is that I will bring in some old laptops (assuming I can find the power cords) and convert one of them to a linux box. One of them had a virus that absolutely destroyed the OS anyway, so it might as well get a new OS installed on it. The other, if I remember right, just had a fan/heat sink problem, which would still be a problem but if the tech-minded folk in the store have an idea of how to fix that, then so much the better. If not, I'm not sure what to do. My first try might just be popping the back off, if I can manage it, and finding one of those non-static cloths to wipe everything down with. But, really, this is why I went back to a desktop. Fucking overheating problem and inability to replace parts in laptops argh. (Not inability, really, unfeasibility though.)
Still haven't seen Guardians of the Galaxy, and for once I'm actively avoiding spoilers on it, which means a) do not talk to me about it, I swear to god people, and b) I'm avoiding most of the internet. Which is actually not that bad, as it turns out. More time for lessons and blogging and writing and knitting. Although the boy and I may end up going to see Maleficent before GotG since that's going out of theatres quicker and we don't have our second run 2$ theatre anymore. Woe. Woe and loss.
Things. I've gotten no writing done for the last three days, that shit needs to stop. Fortunately work seems at least somewhat less busy today, I've knitted through my initial burst phase of I-have-learned-a-new-thing-now-I-will-do-it-twenty-times (okay, four), and hopefully now I can focus even past the online learning thing. I do want to pick up a course from Coursera this week, and then see what else there is to study/what other places there are to study from, to fill out my spreadsheet somewhat. After that... who knows.
I might actually be managing to achieve some kind of balance in my life among all my various working things. Gasp! Shock!
